Relay For Life is an overnight event that unites communities in the fight against cancer. It is a way to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and fight back against a disease that takes too much from too many.
Teams of friends, families, schools, businesses, and organizations raise money for the American Cancer Society, individually and through fun group fundraisers, and then join together at a local track, taking turns walking overnight. Teams set up campsites and enjoy entertainment, activities, and special ceremonies throughout the night.
Cancer survivors and caregivers are the guests of honor and each Relay For Life kicks off with a special recognition of them, followed by an inspirational luminaria ceremony.
We are privileged to have our very own Relay for Life team! One of their fundraising activities is “Soup on Sunday” luncheons otherwise known as S.O.S. These events are held after worship on the 2nd Sunday of each month in the Fellowship Hall. A variety of soups, grilled cheese sandwiches and an assortment of desserts are supplied by our Relay team. Lunch is on a donation basis. All proceeds go to help meet the teams fundraising goal.
This years event is May 20-21 and is tentatively scheduled to be held at the Brooklyn Fair Grounds.
Please contact co-chairs Wendi Hopkins or Kathy Ames if you are interested in becoming part of this fundraising team.
